Now that you’re ready to start addiction treatment, you may have concerns about paying for it. Paying for rehab is one of the biggest barriers to addiction recovery. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be. Under the Affordable Care Act, substance use disorder and alcohol use disorder are both recognized as mental health issues. As such, private pay health insurance companies are legally required to cover some or all of the related treatment costs.
Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center is in-network with Ambetter insurance. We are able to accept Ambetter members immediately and will be happy to discuss your plan details and treatment options.
If you have Ambetter Insurance, you’ll have access to various rehabs that accept Ambetter insurance. Understanding what your plan will and will not cover is an important step when using Ambetter insurance for rehab.
Does Ambetter Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?
Ambetter does offer coverage for drug and alcohol rehab. However, several factors can affect the kind of rehab services that are paid for by your plan, and the amount of out-of-pocket spending you’ll be responsible for. These include:
- Your geographic location
- Your Ambetter plan type
- Whether you want inpatient treatment or outpatient treatment
Not only does the Affordable Care Act establish substance use disorder as a covered mental health issue, but it also prevents health insurance companies from penalizing applicants and policyholders for having this pre-existing condition. Thus, even if you don’t have an Ambetter health insurance plan right now, you can still get one.
With Ambetter, there are three coverage types available. These are:
- Ambetter Essential Care Plan (The Bronze Plan)
- Ambetter Balanced Care Plan (The Silver Plan)
- Ambetter Secure Care Plan (The Gold Plan)
If you want to stay in an inpatient facility and with minimal out-of-pocket spending, the Ambetter Secure Care Plan is the best choice. You’ll pay a higher monthly premium for this coverage, but your out-of-pocket costs may be limited to your plan deductible, your co-payment, and any prescription fees defined in your coverage terms.
The basic Ambetter Essential Care Plan will provide access to a more limited range of covered services. You’ll still get full or partial coverage for limited hospital stays, access to a generous array of mental health and substance abuse services, laboratory services, essential prescription drugs, and more. An Ambetter Essential Care Plan will even cover the costs of various preventative health services that are required as part of your addiction treatment.
However, to keep your out-of-pocket costs at a manageable level with this plan type, outpatient treatment is the most economical choice. The Silver or Ambetter Balanced Care Plan offers the best balance between premiums and out-of-pocket spending for both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.
Ambetter Insurance for Inpatient Treatment
Although coverage for substance use disorder is federally mandated, many basic, private pay health insurance plans only cover a portion of inpatient treatment costs. At the start of recovery, nearly all people require medical detox services for assured comfort and safety throughout the withdrawal process. These include constant monitoring of your vital signs and mental health. They can additionally include medications for mitigating or preventing severe withdrawal symptoms as well as other forms of medical intervention. All Ambetter plan types cover the costs of initial detox.
Attending our inpatient addiction treatment using your Ambetter plan will take you out of your current environment and place you in our safe, comfortable residential setting. You’ll be surrounded by a dedicated team of medical and mental health professionals who can tailor your care to meet your needs. Inpatient treatment can last just 30 days. For those requiring extended addiction treatment, inpatient rehab can also last between three and six months.
At Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, we can work with your health insurance company to structure your care for both affordability and effectiveness. Best of all, if there are gaps in your coverage that require out-of-pocket spending, our admissions team can assist you in establishing a manageable payment plan.
Outpatient Treatment and Ambetter Insurance
Whether you have the bronze, silver, or gold plan from Ambetter, your coverage will likely pay for some or all of your outpatient treatment costs. Given that outpatient treatment is significantly cheaper than inpatient care, choosing outpatient rehab may be the right choice if you’re worried about out-of-pocket spending. Ambetter covers many:
- Intensive outpatient programs
- Partial hospitalization programs
- Outpatient services for relapse prevention
