Every year on Veterans Day at our veteran-centered rehab facility in Biloxi, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and strength of those who served our nation.
This day reminds us that freedom comes at a cost and that gratitude should extend far beyond a simple thank-you.
Across Mississippi, communities gather to celebrate and reflect on what service truly means.
Veterans Day is about more than ceremonies or parades. It’s about recognizing the individuals who carried the weight of service and continue to live with its impact.
Many return home to rebuild their lives, facing physical injuries, emotional scars, or struggles that few can fully understand. The support they receive can make all the difference.
At Mississippi Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center in Biloxi, we’re proud to honor those who have served by helping them heal. Our veteran recovery and active-duty rehab programs are designed to address addiction, trauma, and mental health challenges with compassion and expertise.
Since 2017, our family-owned center has provided the care and structure our hometown heroes need for lasting recovery.
Why Veterans Day Matters
Veterans Day stands as a national reminder of sacrifice and resilience. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 146,000 veterans live in Mississippi, each representing a personal story of service and commitment (source).
Honoring service means recognizing the challenges that follow it. Many experience stress, isolation, or trauma when transitioning back to civilian life. The courage to ask for help is often the next step in the same strength that led them to serve. Supporting them through veteran recovery and mental health care is one of the most meaningful ways a community can give back.
The Ongoing Battle Beyond Service
For many who served, the hardest battles begin after returning home. Conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and substance abuse are common among those adjusting to civilian life. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reports that about 1 in 3 veterans seeking treatment for substance use disorders also live with PTSD (source).
In 2023, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) estimated that over 5 million veterans experienced a mental illness in the past year, with only about half receiving professional treatment (source).
That’s why comprehensive support programs are essential. Our Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program provides structured care for individuals managing depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. This program bridges the gap between inpatient and outpatient care, allowing clients to receive intensive therapy while maintaining daily responsibilities.
Recovery isn’t a single event; it’s a process of rebuilding, guided by compassion, structure, and professional care. By addressing both mental health and substance use, we help clients restore balance and purpose in their lives.
How Mississippi Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center Supports Veteran Recovery
Our mission is to serve those who once served our nation. We provide medical detox, inpatient treatment, and intensive outpatient therapy, all tailored to meet the needs of military members. Each treatment plan is personalized, focusing on addiction, PTSD, and Military Sexual Trauma (MST).
We also offer active-duty rehab programs that work with service schedules and transition plans. These programs are designed to meet the unique challenges of military life while providing the support needed to maintain readiness and resilience.
As our team often says, caring for those who have served is one of our greatest honors. Every day, we see firsthand the courage it takes to seek help and the strength it takes to heal.
Building Strength Through Community
Community support is one of the most powerful tools in recovery. Across Mississippi, from Biloxi to Jackson, Gulfport, and Hattiesburg, families, organizations, and neighbors can play a part. Simple actions like volunteering, donating, or checking in on someone who has served can make a lasting impact.
According to the VA’s 2024 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report, connection and community involvement are proven protective factors that reduce mental health struggles and suicide risk (source).
Supporting veteran recovery is a shared responsibility. When Mississippi stands behind its heroes, it strengthens the entire community.
Our Commitment to Those Who Served
At Mississippi Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center, we remain committed to providing hope and healing for every service member and veteran who walks through our doors. Our veteran recovery and active-duty rehab programs reflect our deep respect for the people who protected our country.
